If your dog is eight years of age or older—or six or older if you own a larger breed of dog—then it may be considered a senior. Veterinarians recommend that you take your senior pet in for an examination every six months. Dogs age much more quickly than we do, and a veterinarian can pick up on potential health problems that a pet owner will not be able to detect. Is your dog receiving the necessary nutrients or getting enough exercise? A regular senior pet examination can provide the answers to those questions.

Taking your dog to the dog park isn’t quite as simple as just letting him off his leash to run with other dogs. In this video, the speaker makes clear that dog parks can be dangerous places if owners don’t take care to protect their charges—including their children. Dogs that are off their leashes and children that are running around can both fall prey to poorly-socialized and larger dogs.
To keep things like this from happening, make sure that your dog remains on his leash and that your children stay within arm’s reach. In addition, if you have a smaller dog, then you should only frequent dog parks that have a special area cordoned off for small dogs. Even friendly encounters between small and large dogs can end with the smaller animal being injured.
If you live in the city, dog parks are simply a fact of life. How else is your dog supposed to get any exercise? To make sure that the process goes smoothly, however, your dog is going to need all of his vaccinations. If your pets vaccinations aren't up to date, visit Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital.
