How to Keep Your Dog Fit and Healthy in the Big Apple

    Last updated 1 year ago

Dogs need regular play and exercise to live happy, long lives. Without playtime and attention from you, your dog may develop health problems, exhibit destructive behavior, and have a poor quality of life. Keep yourself and your dog happy by incorporating some fun, high-energy activities into your routine. A simple daily walk is great to get you and your dog into shape, but consider some off-the-leash activities for your canine to enjoy.

    • Explore Local Dog Parks: New York has a wealth of parks that offer dog runs and off leash areas. These are great places to enjoy a game of fetch, a fun run, or even an obstacle course. Your dog will benefit from the fresh air and social time with other dogs.
    • Invest in New Toys: Find some toys that your dog loves so you can play games around the house. Try playing hide and seek or follow the leader with your pet’s favorite toys. These games will get you both moving, but are less likely to break your valuables than indoor fetch. Also consider getting some good tug-of-war toys for the dog park that your dog will want to share with canine friends.
    • Use Your Home as a Play Space: Weather and time don’t always permit trips to the dog park, but you and your dog can enjoy the familiar space of your home as a place to play. Try training your dog to do some tricks at home. This will incorporate some physical activity with mental stimulation that your dog needs.

Your dog will love spending more time with you, and you will enjoy a great bond with your pet. Just remember that regular trips to the vet are important to keeping your dog healthy, and consulting a Veterinarian is a great way to learn even more tips on healthy living for your dog. Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital specializes in pet care and offers preventative care, herbal medicine, and pet acupuncture. Visit our website or call us at (917) 675-3708 to learn how we can help you keep your pet happy and healthy.

Heart of Chelsea Review on Yelp!

The staff have a true love and a dedicated passion for the health and well being of our beloved baby. They always listens and explain the issues in detail which I believe is one of the most important qualities in a vet. I would recommend Heart of Chelsea to anyone (and I do!). More

We just LOVE Heart of Chelsea... We see Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Gabriele on a regular basis as our frenchie commonly has "stomach" issues.  Being that his stomach is frequently upset and that we live in NYC we bring him to the vet quite a bit to make sure he didn't pick up something on the street (giardia, etc) .  We could not be happier with the care...
